  • Day 1 Upon arrival in Florence after you clear customs you are transferred by scheduled private car and taken to your hotel. Balance of day free.

  • Day 2 In the morning take an excursion through the fertile and picturesque Tuscan countryside leading to the historic university town of Pisa, famous for its architectural beauty. A panoramic view of the Piazza dei Cavalieri, where the Scuola Normale, one of the most famous universities in the world resides. The tour continues to Piazza dei Miracoli to admire the celebrated Leaning Tower. Visit to the Cathedral an unequalled masterpiece of Romanesque art carried out during the 11th and 12th Century. Balance of day free.

  • Day 3 Today a full day excursion through the Chianti countryside nested in delightful hills, with an ever-changing scenery of vineyards and olive trees. A visit to San Gimignano, a tiny city located on the top of a hill and kept intact through the centuries. It is famous for its numerous towers, its frescoes and a multitude of art treasures. In the afternoon the tour continues to the medieval city of Siena where it is possible to admire the Cathedral, Piazza del Campo, one of the most beautiful Piazza's in Europe. On the way back to Florence it is possible to admire the old medieval village of Monteriggioni, enclosed by its famous walls.

  • Days 4 & 5 The rest of the days are at leisure for resting, shopping or just strolling through the hystoric city. You can discover the main museums (Uffizi, Accademia, Bargello, Pitti & Boboli., Duomo, Baptistery, Giotto bell tower...) thanks our official guide.

  • Day 6 After breakfast your driver will pick you up at the hotel and take you to the airport to board your flight back home.

Enjoy 8 days in the regions of Umbria and Tuscany with this off the beaten path tour for individual travelers who are looking for a once in a lifetime vacation in Italy. This tour can be done using a rental car (gps available) or, for the most exclusive experience using a private driver. Stay only in small boutique hotels and enjoy wine tastings, cooking classes and special dinners.

DAY 1: ROME - BETTONA – (UMBRIA) 
Arrival in Rome. Meet your private driver and departure for Umbria Region (you will have the same driver during the whole trip). Arrival in Bettona, lovely medieval village in the heart of the region. Accommodation in your room and welcome dinner in the characteristic restaurant of the Relais. Overnight stay.

DAY 2:  TORGIANO – DERUTA – PERUGIA – (UMBRIA)
After breakfast depart for the hilltop town of Torgiano, not far from Bettona to visit at leisure the Wine Museum that will delight both the connoisseur as well as the merely curious. You’ll have the chance to taste the singular wines of Umbria’s most illustrious wine house Cantine Giorgio Lungarotti that lies just outside Torgiano. The rest of the afternoon can be spent in Deruta, renown for its beautiful ceramic and pottery. Here we suggest you to visit the National Museum of the Pottery, located just in the village center. You will also have time to a stop to Perugia, elegant town rich in important monuments and renown for its production of Chocolate (the world famous “Bacio” candy was born here). Dinner on your own and overnight stay.

DAY 3:  MONTEFALCO – ASSISI – (UMBRIA)
After breakfast departure for Montefalco, gorgeous medieval town called “the terrace of Umbria” for its incredible panoramic location. Here you will visit an ancient olive oil mill run by a nice woman and her family, for a tasting of traditional local food and olive oil. Typical Italian snacks will be served. The rest of the day is dedicated to visiting Assisi at your leisure. Dinner on your own. Back to the Hotel and overnight stay.

DAY 4:  MONTEPULCIANO – PIENZA – MONTALCINO – (UMBRIA/TUSCANY)
After breakfast departure for Tuscany. First stop at the Renaissance town of Montepulciano. The town is the birthplace of the humanist poet Poliziano and host to works of some of Italy’s greatest architects. Quench your thirst with a bit of wine with a tasting and tour with snacks in an ancient wine cellar in the city center. Lunch at leisure. In the afternoon you will have the chance to stop in the lovely town of Pienza and take your time to get lost in the narrow and characteristic streets of the town, which names as “la Via dell’Amore”, are so romantic. After breakfast departure for Montalcino, where you will enjoy a winery tour and tasting in a Brunello wine estate. Lunch in a central trattoria and the afternoon, we suggest you a visit to the intimate 11 century Romanesque church of St. Antimo. Returning back to Siena, have a stop to the impressive Benedictine Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, one of the finest holy places of Tuscany region. Dinner on your own and overnight stay. Arrival in your Hotel in Siena area. Dinner on you own and overnight stay.

DAY 5:  COOKING CLASS IN CHIANTI - S. GIMIGNANO – (TUSCANY)
After breakfast at the Hotel drive into the Sienese countryside to attend a cooking class in a farmhouse. You’ll learn the principle secrets of Italian cuisine, such as the art of making delicious pasta. Enjoy for lunch what you created during the cooking class. The reminder of the afternoon can be spent in San Gimignano, wandering among the towers and shops of this timeless medieval town. Dinner on your own in San Gimignano. Overnight at hotel.

DAY 6: CHIANTI – SIENA (TUSCANY)
After breakfast departure for the Chianti region, located between Siena and Florence known around the world for fine wines. Enjoy a bit of culture with a tour of a winery, complete with wine tasting. In the afternoon you’ll have chance to wander the medieval streets of Siena and have time for shopping and relax. Dinner on your own and overnight stay.

DAY 7:  FLORENCE – (TUSCANY)
Full Day (Uffizi Gallery or Accademy David House, shopping). Walking tour with your private guide (Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, S. Croce, Piazza Repubblica, Piazza Signoria, Market Square.

DAY 8:  FLORENCE – ITALY / USA
After breakfast you will drop off the rental car at the airport in Florence for your flight home or to the train station to continue your stay in Italy. If you choose to the private driver option, your driver will take you to the airport in Florence.

During the month of August many wine estates in Umbria and Tuscany, are closed for holidays so it is very difficult to realize this itinerary in that period

Rome, Florence, Venice


DAY 1: ROME
Arrive Rome airport, meet and greet and transfer to hotel. Balance of day at your leisure. 

DAY 2: ROME
Breakfast at hotel and departure for visit, mostly by foot, of this famous city. We will visit the Piazza di Spagna, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona and end at St Peter's Basilica.  The balance of the day is free.
DAY 3:  ROME
Full day with your private english speaking driver (private car tour) and your private Guide (walking tour). St Peters, Spanish steps, Colosseo and more.

DAY 4:  ROME, TUSCANY
Breakfast and depart for the famous Chianti region of Tuscany. Chianti is a vast area between Siena and Florence. This area is the largest wine producing area in Italy. We will stop at Montepulciano, a famous city, known for its production of the very famous red wine Brunello. It is posssible to buy it in the winehouse of the town. We will have a wine tasting, some free time and then arrival early evening in Rome.

DAY 5: ROME, ASSISI, SIENA, FLORENCE
Early departure from hotel by deluxe motor coach to Assisi.  Arrival and free time at disposal to visit the tiny town, surrounded by ancient middle age walls.  We suggest you visit the Basilica of Saint Francis with its masterpieces by Giotto. Lunch on your own.  After, we visit Siena, the town most noted for its shell shaped Piazza del Campo, the town square, famous for hosting the Palio horse race two times a year. In late afternoon we reach our hotel in Florence.  Dinner and overnight.

DAY 6:  FLORENCE
After breakfast, a visit of this beautiful city of Etruscan - Roman origin. It flourished during the middle ages as a free commune. Florence is known for as the cradle of Renaissance for its monuments, churches and buildings. Best known site and the jewel of Florence is the domed cathedral, Santa Maria dei Fiore, known as The Duomo, which we will visit. We will then proceed to the Campanille tower and the Baptistry with the golden bronze doors, so beautiful.  We also visit the vast expanse of Piazza della Signoria with Palazzo Vecchio and then the Santa Croce Basilica. Your afternoon is at leisure. You may wish to take an optional tour to Pisa. Dinner and overnight in Florence.

DAY 7:  BOLOGNA, PADUA, VENICE
After breakfast, departure for Bologna, the city known for its gastronomic pleasures and extensive and elegant arcades (or porticos). There are over 20 miles of arcades in the city center alone.. The central streets of Bologna are mostly pedestrian only. Here we will be fascinated by the Piazza dei Netuno, King Renzo's Palace, the Podesta Palace and the Basilica of San Petronio, one of the biggest in the world. In the afternoon we will continue to Padua and its original Saint Antonio Basilica. In the evening arrive in Venice area.  Dinner and overnight.

DAY 8: VENICE
Breakfast and then transfer by vaporetto to St Marks Square. We will visit St Marks Square and the Doges Palace. At the end of the tour, we will stop in one of the famous Murano glass factories for a demonstration. Afternoon is at leisure. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 1: ROME
Arrival on their own at Hotel and overnight.

DAY 2: ROME, ASSISI, SIENA, FIRENZE
Departure at 07.15 from the hotel Diana by a deluxe coach we’ll arrive to Assisi. Arrival and free time at disposal to visit this tiny town, surrounded by ancient Middle Ages walls. We suggest the visit of the Basilica of St. Francesco with its masterpieces of Giotto and Cimabue. Lunch break (not included). By the motorway we’ll arrive to Siena. This medieval town surrounded by ancient walls and known for the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, the town square, famous for hosting the Palio horse race. Then we’ll reach our destination: Florence. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: FLORENCE
Breakfast. Visit of this beautiful city where the italian genius for art reached its pinnacle. City of Etruscan- Roman origins, it flourished in the Middle Ages as a free commune. Furtherly refined by Renaissance, Florence is known as the “craddle of Renaissance” (la culla delRinascimento) for its monuments, churches and buildings.The best-known site and crowning architectural jewel of Florence is the domed cathedral of the city, Santa Maria del Fiore known as The Duomo that we will visit. The magnificent dome was built by Filippo Brunelleschi. We will then proceed to the nearby Campanile tower (partly designed by Giotto) and the Baptistery with the golden bronze doors (they were so beautiful that they were called the “Gates of Paradise” by Michelangelo himself. In the heart of the city there is Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo della Signoria (also known as Palazzo Vecchio), gothic building, and the Santa Croce Basilica. Afternoon at leisure, possibility to visit Pisa(optional). The power of Pisa as a mighty maritime nation began to grow on and reached its apex in the 11th century when it acquired traditional fame as one of the four main historical Marine Republics of Italy. Then we will admire the Square of Miracles where we find the Duomo, the Leaning Tower and the Baptistery. Return to Florence. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 4:  FLORENCE, BOLOGNA, PADOVA, VENICE
Breakfast. In the morning departure to Bologna. The cityscape is further enriched by elegant and extensive arcades (or porticos), which the city is famous for. In total, there are about 38 kilometres of arcades in the city historical center for its 40 km of high system of fortifications and defensive towers. From the Via dell’Indipendenza, we will proceed to Piazza del Nettuno and Piazza Maggiore in the heart of the city. The central streets of Bologna today are largely pedestrianized. Here we’ll be fascinated by the Piazza del Nettuno, King Renzo’s Palace, the PodestàPalace and the Basilica of San Petronio, one of the biggest in the world (during its construction it was intended to be bigger than St. Peter's inRome. In the afternoon we will continue towards Padova, with its original Sant’ Antonio Basilica. In the evening, arrival in  Venice, world-famous for its gondola (classic venetian boat) and for its elegant and refined art. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 5: VENICE
Breakfast. Transfer by vaporetto to St Mark Square. We will visit: St Mark Square and the Doge’s Palace (external), symbol of the glory and the authority of Venice, residence of  the Dukes and seat of the Government and the Court of Justice. It can be reached crossing the Bridge ofSighs where Casanova had been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment..  At the end of the tour, the group will stop in one of the famous Murano glasses factory. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 6:  VENICE, MONTEPULCIANO (TUSCANY), ROME
Breakfast and departure by motor coach from Piazzale Roma to the famous area of Tuscany interesting for its romanic churches as Pievi and its castles, area where the production of the most famous wines takes place. After a short  panoramic of the Chianti Region we will reach Valle D’Orcia and stop in Montepulciano, precious medieval  town rich of history and art, known for its “nobile” wine that can be bought in the winehouses of the town. For wine and jazz lovers, in July there is the Jazz and Wine festival. Tasting of local wine, Free time at disposal. In the evening arrival in Rome overnight in Rome.

DAY 7:  ROME
Breakfast at the Hotel. Departure from the Hotel at 08:00 am approximately to visit by foot  this famous city and its artistic beauties among which: Piazza di Spagna, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon , Piazza Navona and end in San Pietro Basilica. Afternoon at leisure and overnight.

DAY 8: ROME, NAPLES, POMPEII, SORRENTO
Breakfast at the Hotel. Departure from the Hotel at 07:00 am aproximately. After leaving Rome, the coach will take  the " Sun Route " motorway, driving through the regions of Lazio and Campania, with a view of the Abbey of Montecassino. Upon arrival in Naples there will be a short panoramic city tour : Mergellina, Castel dell'Ovo Plebiscito Square, the Royal Palace, the Maschio Angioino and the port. Lunch in a restaurant on our way to Pompeii and then visit of the excavations of the famous Roman city , destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Leaving Pompeii and driving along the Sorrentine coast, arrival in Sorrento. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

DAY 9: SORRENTO, CAPRI, ROME
After breakfast we board the boat for the Island of Capri., if, weather and sea conditions permitting, we will visit the Blue Grotta ( weather conditions permitting)  in small rowing boats. Lunch in a restaurant and free time for personal activities. In the afternoon departure to Rome. Arrival and overnight in Rome.

DAY 10: ROME

Southern Fantasy tour: Rome to Scicily


DAY 1: ROMA, CASERTA, NAPLES, SCALEA
Breakfast at your hotel. Departure at 07.00. After leaving Rome and driving along the “Sun Route” motorway, we will cross the regions of Lazio and Campania. Once in Caserta, located at 22 km to Naples, there will be a panoramic tour of the Royal Palace, which dominates the city.The Palace, as big and luxoury as than of Versailles, better known as “Reggia”, it’s one of the most visited historical place in Italy.We will then walk along the elegants gardens, the English garden, and we’ll admire an impressive waterfall: the Large cascade of Diana. The excursion will go on visiting Naples where there will be a short panoramic tour of the city: the historical centre, Piazza del Plebiscito, the impressive Castel dell’Ovo, the Royal Palace and the Gallery the The Gallery of Umberto I. There will be a stop to taste and enjoy the typical products of this area.Free time for lunch. Then we will continue towards Salerno and Battipaglia, to reach the wonderful “Cedar Coast” famous for its seashore and citrus grove called “Credo”. Arrival at Scalea, one of the mosthistorical coast city. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.

DAY 2: SCALEA, COSTA CEDRI, DIAMANTE, GUARDIA PIEMONTESE, PAOLA, SCALEA
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning coast tour where you will appreciate the artistic beauty of villages as Diamante (famous for his beach and for the festival of “aji piccanti” in September), Guardia Piemontese, a fortress where people traditionally speak occitano , in his variety vivaro-alpina (locally called gardiol),since the 15th century.This is an occitan settlement in the italian linguistic field. We will continue towards Centraro and Paola Free time for lunch. Visit of this city on the sea dominated by the castle.The sanctuary of San Francesco di Paola is an important pilgrimage centre also known for its nice closter surrounded by rose garden and naif paintings which show the saint miracles.Return to Scalea. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: SCALEA, PARCO NAZIONALE DEL POLLINO, SAN GIOVANNI IN FIORE,- SILA, CROTONE
After breakfast we will reach San Giovanni in Fiore. Along the way we will admire the huge National Park of Pollino, famous for its Orsomaso Mountains, the gorgeous canyon of Gole di Raganello and the Civita and Castrovillari. The tour will continue inside this wonderful region, reaching the Sila. It hasn’t a mediterranean aspect and it’s famous for its green hills, granes wood and blue lakes which evoke the image of Asturia or Switzerland in a sunny day. It will be a pleasure to visit San Giovanni in Fiore and looking into the artisan shops of carpet Free time for lunch. We will then continue towards Crotone, ancient city founded by the ancient Greeks in 710 b.C. It reached its splendour during the later century, when it became a famous place renowned for the beauty of its ladies and the metaphysic of Pitagora.Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 4:  CROTONE, CATANZARO, VIBO VAENTIA/REGGIO CALABRIA
Breakfast at the hotel. Crossing Catanzaro we will reach Vibo Valentia. Arrival at Vibo, ancient high town slightly inland. It is famous for its Norman Castle and its Museum which keeps a lot of remains of a Greek colony. With the clear weather,on the top of the Castle, you can admire the volcanic island of Stromboli. Free lunch. We will then continue towards Reggio Calabria. In the afternoon, arrival at Reggio and free time at disposal to visit the town. It is known for its Riace Bronzes, two famous full-size Greek bronzes of nude bearded warriors, cast about 460 - 430 BC. They were found in 1972 and currently they are kept in the National Museum, for its bright Cathedral and its seaside promenade. Dinner and overstay.

DAY 5: REGGIO CALABRIA, MESSINA, PALERMO
Breakfast. Sicily. We will embark for Messina. There will be a panoramic tour of the city, including the visit of the Cathedral with its Bell Tower and its clock. Then, we will reach Cefalù. Free time at disposal. We’ll go on to Palermo, the sicilian capital. Arrival. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 6:  PALERMO
Breakfast. In the morning visit of Monreale, ancient royal town. Return to Palermo. Here we will visit the Cathedral and other main interesting places of the city. Free afternoon. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 7:  PALERMO, ERICE, MAZZARA DEL VALLE, AGRIGENTO
Breakfast. Departure as far as Erice, situated on 700 mt above sea level and remained unchanged thanks to its retaining wall erected in the VI century b.c. We will then visit Mazara del Vallo, fishing port of Italy overlooks the Strait of Sicily.We will proceed to Marsala, next to Africa. Free time at disposal to visit this seaside resort known for its wines growth. Next, we’ll go on to Agrigento. The visit will continue with the Valley of the Temples (admission tickets included) with the Temple of Juno, the Temple of Concorde, the Temple of Hercules and Temple of Jupiter, one of the largest of all doric style buildings. (If the weather doesn’t permit, we will enjoy a visit of the Valley of Temples on the 8 day in the morning). Dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 8: AGRIGENTO, MODICA, SIRACUSA, TAORMINA (GIARDINI NAXOS)
Breakfast. After leaving Siracusa we will cross Modica, where its faded tonality, its baroque buildings and its chocolate will astonish you. Then you will visit one of the most beutiful baroque church in the island: the Church of St George. Will continue towards Siracusa, crossing the Island of Ortigia, rich in Baroque and medieval palaces and churches. Siracusa's Duomo is one of the town's most celebrated sights. In the hearts of Syracusans, the Fonte Aretusa occupies an important position.We can be fascinated also by the Greek Amphiteathre , the Dionisio Ear and the Roman Theathre (admission tickets included). In the afternoon arrival at Taormina. Dinner and overstay.

DAY 9: TAORMINA (GIARDINI NAXOS)
Breakfast. Excursion to the Mount Etna, an active volcano and it is the largest active volcano in Europe. It is the highest mountain in Italy. (Weather permitting) we’ll climb the summit area up to 1800 m. Return to Taormina, crossing the town located on a impressive embankment of the Monte Tauro. Dinner and overstay.

DAY 10: TAORMINA (GIARDINI NAXOS)

Tour of Faith

DAY 1  Depart the United States via overnight flight to Rome.

DAY 2  Upon arrival in Rome we will meet our driver and guide and drive north to Assisi, birthplace of St Francis and a city whose walls have hardly changed since the Middle Ages.  Overnight Assisi.

DAY 3  A full-day walking tour of Assisi, using local buses where appropriate.   We will visit the Basilica de San Francesco, seeing Giotto’s Frescos, and the crypt where the remains of St Francis rest.  We see the Cappella del Croscifissco, the cross that spoke to St Francis and led him to his life of piety.  We then journey on to the church of San Damino and then to Santa Maria degli Angeli, the baroque church built over the Porziuncola (the chapel restored by St Francis).  It is here where St Francis died.  Overnight Assisi.

DAY 4  Today we visit Eremo Delle Carceri, a monastery in the dense woodlands on the side of Monte Subasio.  Here, on the slope of the mountain in caves, St Francis and his followers established their first home and to which he returned often during his lifetime to pray and meditate.   Then we travel on to La Verna visiting the site where St Francis received the stigmata, and finally to Isola Maggiore where St Francis went on retreat for forty days. Overnight Assisi.

DAY 5  This morning we travel to Florence.  On arrival we enjoy a guided walking tour of the city.  We will see the famous piazzas, and visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with its magnificent dome, Bell Tower and Baptistery.  The Baptistery has golden doors designed by Ghiberti representing scenes from the Life and Passion of Christ.  We visit the Accademia museum and see Michelangelo's famous statue of David.  The remainder of the afternoon is left to explore Florence on our own.  Overnight Florence.

DAY 6  Morning free in Florence for us to visit the Uffizi Gallery, shop in the street markets or elegant shopping avenues and enjoy a Florentine lunch.  This afternoon we make an excursion into the Tuscany countryside visiting a local vineyard and olive oil producer.  Overnight Florence.

DAY 7  We begin our journey toward Rome as St Francis did in 1209.  We travel along the "Highway of the Sun" and visit Greccio to see the Greccio Monastery, where St Francis celebrated Christmas in 1223 by placing a manger and live animals before the altar which started the custom of making creches or manger scenes at Christmas.  We continue on to Rome for overnight stopping before arrival at the eternal city at Ostia Antica to visit this ancient area.  Overnight Rome.

DAY 8  This morning we will tour the Vatican City, an area of one hundred nine acres, ruled by the Pope, with  its own postage stamps, coinage, anthem and Flag.  We visit St Peter's Basilica, built on the site where St Peter was buried after he had been martyred in Nero's Circus.  The first chapel on the right as you enter St Peter's contains the Pieta', the moving and powerful masterpiece carved by Michelangelo.  We will then visit the Vatican Museums and at the end of the tour, see the Sistine Chapel created by Michelangelo on it's ceiling.  Overnight Rome.

DAY 9  This morning we tour Ancient Rome, seeing the Colosseum, the Forum and visiting the church of St John the Lateran.   Our afternoon is free for personal sightseeing and shopping.  Farewell dinner and overnight in Rome.

DAY 10  Depart from Rome airport.
