Montalcino

This is the town where the most famous italian and perhaps global red wine is produced.

Montalcino is a small town of 5.000 , dating back to the middle ages, situated up on a cliff at a height of approx. 1500 ft. Its most famous sight is the fortress. This was built in the XIVth century to protect the locals from the sienese.
It is today the headquarters of the Brunello Wine association. We will stop by to get a further in depth approach to the Brunello’s production and do some wine-tasting. Our hosts will help you sample-taste your ideal wine, according to your preferences. Before the wine gets to your head, we will be off to our visit to one of the local wineries (there are more than 180). Here our host-friend will show us around their property and cellars telling us all about the process of the making and the ageing of the Brunello. Next to the wine cellars is the house restaurant where you will continue to sample taste the local Brunello , but this time savouring the kitchen’s delicacies. (many of the recipes include dishes cooked with their local wine such as the stewed wild boar, just to mention our favourite).

Pienza

Born of the will of the Pontiff from whom it draws its name, Pope Pius II, Pienza is a rare example of beauty, harmony and architectural perfection.
The numerous, small roads bear romantic names like Via del Bacio and Via dell’Amore (i.e., Road of the Kiss, Road of Love), and most look out upon breathtaking landscapes.
The squares and historical buildings are the keepers of the secrets of Rossellino’s art and of traces of noble papal power.
The artistic and natural heritage goes hand in hand with taste, smell and flavour.
The typical Pecorino cheese is deeply rooted in local tradition. You could have some at lunch at one of the town’s “trattorias”, where you will enjoy classic dishes of the Tuscan culinary tradition.

Montepulciano

In the afternoon, always leaded by one of our expert and witty tour leaders, you will set out for Montepulciano, a town perched on a narrow ridge of limestone and surrounded by mighty town walls.
The grandeur of its Renaissance buildings and the elegant beauty of its churches intertwine with the ancient oenological tradition of the “Nobile di Montepulciano”, which symbolises the town’s art of wine making.
