The history of Pienza binds to Pope Pius II, Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who was born there in 1405. Pope Pius II wanted in this place, who had seen his birth, stood a city whose name recalls his papacy: an urban center in perfect antithesis to the city of Siena that had unjustly marginalized. Architects and artists (Bernardo Rossellino firt of all) made famous town of Pienza, the symbol of the Italian Renaissance in just three years from 1459 to 1462, which is why this center can be called today "the ideal city" for its aesthetic and its conceptions of art which can be appreciated by the visitor who goes to this place.
