Product Description

It takes almost two hours to go from Florence to Assisi. However, the transfer grows shorter since the road is smooth and surrounded by a very pleasant landscape. After driving the first hour to the south, we turn east towards the Trasimeno Lake, a place usually visited by North European tourists on summertime.

From here we already see the village of Cortona that will be our last stop on the way back. Our tour continues for almost half an hour surrounded by hills of olive trees and wild vegetation. Just across the city of Perugia, we see the wide view of Monte Subasio, the majestic mountain where is the famous village of Assisi. A quick rest at Santa Maria degli Angeli before visiting one of the most precious treasures of Italy.

DETAILS
This is one of the only two tours with which we take license to abandon our region to visit Umbria. We dare to do so because it is really worth. Assisi doesn’t need to be highlighted to confirm the interest of people from all over the world.

This elegant village is an important destination for religious tourism and not only. Here the Basilica of Saint Francis towers over the rest of the village, which is always of extraordinary beauty. Even more now that the restoration work, after the dramatic earthquake of 1997 that severely damaged much of the buildings, are completed. Built on two levels, the basilica is home of Saint Francis’ relics. Santa Chiara is the second Church in order of importance.

Santa Maria degli Angeli is the small group of houses just before Assisi where inside the impressive Cathedral is a smaller Church named Porziuncola.

Cortona is the other village positioned at the edge of Val di Chiana from which you can dominate the homonymous valley and enjoy a view on the Trasimeno lake. In recent years this charming village has got a sudden fame from the writing of the novel “Under the Tuscan Sun”. Then, the movie taken from the novel has permanently strengthened its fame. However, if Frances Mays decided to set his story and therefore to buy a house there, there will be a reason. We are confident that people who choose to make this tour will definitely understand it.
