Have a Gourmet Experience in Two Wineries in Sangiovese
Umberto Cesari: The origin of everything, a dream…
The Cesari household has always been passionate about wine: Umberto’s father, Ilario, ran one of the most historic Osterias in Bologna. However, Umberto was not satisfied with following in his father’s footsteps.
He preferred to pursue a dream: to not just sell great wine, but create it. Founder, pioneer, ambassador. In the early ’60s, Umberto Cesari purchased a 20-hectare vineyard on the hills of Castel San Pietro, founded the company which bears his name, and embarked on the adventure of a lifetime: to turn Sangiovese into a great wine, typical of its own area, but loved worldwide. Umberto Cesari is among the first to focus on this grape variety and popularise it at an international level.

Visit – Condé
Visit one of the largest wineries in Emilia Romagna. With 120 hectares of Sangiovese Grapes, insert name of the winery has been hailed by Condé Nast Johansens as one of the Top 6 wine resorts in the world.
After enjoying an unforgettable tour of the winery followed by a wine tasting, you will sit down to lunch at one of the four restaurants in the wine village, where you will be served a degustation menu with wine. After lunch, you will have the opportunity to purchase some bottles of wine in the Sangiovese Wine Boutique.
The Winery is nestled in the hills surrounding Predappio, a small town located 100km from Bologna (only a 1-hour drive in a comfortable, luxury sedan or minivan), and long considered the true home of Sangiovese.
The history of this variety of wine has been closely interwoven into the story of the Emilia Romagna region over the past two thousand years. Caio Appio, an ancient Roman tribune, founded the city of Predappio in the third century B.C., after retiring to the hills to cultivate Sanguis Iovis or Sangiovese. These ancient origins explain the strong link between this noble grape and our hills.
The estate has three distinct areas: the classic Italian borgo, the villa complex, and La Cittadella. The borgo houses most of the guest rooms whose views of the vineyards are a magical wake-up-call. This is also where the indoor and outdoor pools, the spa, breakfast room, Ristorante Alto, conference rooms and wine cellar reside. The villas allow for a little more privacy and can be hired exclusively, making them popular with business events and wedding celebrations. Some have a private pool. Then there’s La Cittadella with the Osteria (Romagnole recipes with a modern twist), Il Ristorante (an ever-changing menu dictated by local produce) and Wine Shop.
